Summary of Position:
As a Sustainable Housing Specialist, you will be helping our clients reduce the environmental footprint of their home and community development plans. You will be working with owners, other designers (Architects & Engineers), and contractors to facilitate, verify, and certify buildings in accordance with LEED® standards (eg: LEED® for Homes and LEED®-ND). You will also be supporting renewable energy projects with the assistance of in-house renewable energy project managers. You will be sourcing and specifying “green” products and design features, developing innovative new design solutions that minimize environmental impact and life-cycle costs (ie: installation through operation through decommissioning), and will be documenting building performance.
Detailed Duties:
  • Meetings with and presentations to clients, designers, and contractors.
  • Charrette facilitation and participation: design collaboration sessions with other stakeholders (typically the owner and their design firms) to incorporate and/or adapt certain elements of LEED® for Homes and/or LEED®-ND into the design.
  • Related supporting calculations, paperwork, reporting, and correspondence with certification agencies such as the CaGBC.
  • Simulation with RETScreen and Hot2000 (some training will be provided, but applicants with experience will be favoured).
  • Supporting senior staff in proposal preparation and other business development efforts.
  • Some project management duties depending on aptitude.
  • Supporting senior staff in project management and implementation duties for renewable energy projects (typically wind and solar energy related).
  • Processing applications for Ontario’s Standard Offer Program and Conservation Demand Management and related incentive programs.
  • Enhancing business relationships with existing clients and partners;
  • Participating in internal review teams that are constantly reviewing company practices to maintain and increase effectiveness, quality, and efficiency, and to ensure continual internal shared learning;
  • Local travel (typically under 3 hrs. round trip).
Qualifications:
  • Applicants should have an engineering degree or technology diploma and experience in building design and construction (especially energy efficient and/or environmentally sustainable design). Further research (for credit or for pleasure) on topics relating to sustainability and to the residential sector would be an asset, as would volunteer participation in technically inclined environmental organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Proven ability to work independently and with multidisciplinary teams;
  • Evidence of self motivation;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Proficiency with any of the following would be assets: AutoCAD drafting, simulating with RETScreen, Hot2000 (and its relatives), and experience with Energy-Star / EnerGuide for houses / LEED.
  • LEED® AP designation and/or EnerGuide CEA certification a strong asset.
  • Experience with RETScreen, Hot2000, AutoCAD, and/or HTML are assets;
